Lee Overpowers Hobbes, Danhausen Still Cant Curse Hook
AEW Delivered another enjoyable hour of television with this week’s edition of Rampage on TNT coming from San Antonio, Texas. The hour went by fast on perhaps the most stacked weekend of wrestling of the year for all wrestling companies around the country. The whole show was solid culminating with the hoss battle that was "Limitless" Keith Lee taking on recent nemesis Powerhouse Hobbes.
Winner: Top Flight Being A Team Again
The Young Bucks were victorious in the first bout of the evening, and in all reality should be here as the first winners. However, after sixteen months the rematch of Top Flight versus The Young Bucks, the Martin Brothers and the Jackson Brothers, serves as a reminder for how great it is to finally have Darius Martin back, and Top Flight flying together again. It was great to see Dante Martin be so featured during the interim of his brother's injury, but the two have much to show as a team still that was only teased a year and a half ago. This match serves as a hardy reminder that Top Flight is back, and is a team to watch moving forward.
Loser: Dan Lambert
On this night. Dan Lambert was prepared to grab a microphone, stand inside a wrestling ring with Men Of The Year and top new AEW signing Paige VanZant*, and tell Sammy he would never receive the TNT Championship rematch he had requested. Lambert received a destroyed car instead, but also did accomplish the part in the ring. He looked bad, even as co-TNT Champion, the jokes were worse, and the attempts to get everyone involved on the mic fell short of anything entertaining. Worst part of the show before the car gets destroyed, and it remains not great television even after fans get to watch a terribly unlikable person’s car get destroyed.
Winner: Jamie Hayter
Hayter is undefeated in singles matches this year within AEW, and continues this with a win here over young upstart Skye Blue. Not only does this victory earn Hayter a spot in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, but stands as a rare appearance of her and Rebel while the dentist is still seemingly out. Jamie continues to be impressive in the ring, and Skye Blue also continues to show nothing but upside as these two had good chemistry here.
Loser: Powerhouse Hobbes
Not only was Hobbes unsuccessful in his main event bout with “Limitless” Keith Lee, but the man that they call Powerhouse was seemingly not the most powerful man in the ring on this night. Keith Lee makes Hobbes look small in the ring sure, but even though Hobbes overall was able to maintain his aura as a powerhouse throughout this match, it’s hard to not feel as if he met his match on this night. After that match Hobbes was able to save face with an act of power through a table that came off as an act of desperation more than a show of force. As Lee said in his promo leading up to the match, it may be time to start reading some science fiction in preparation for such a situation, because Keith Lee is unreal.
